Hungry for the Hunger Games

May the odds ever be in your favor of loving The Hunger Games. If you haven’t heard of The Hunger Games, have you been living under a rock like Peeta and Katniss?

Today I’ll be reviewing the Hunger Games film Franchise!

The Hunger Games is a popular dystopian film franchise that follows the people of Panem through the Hunger Games. The Hunger Games was adapted from a book series written by Suzanne Collins. The Hunger Games are an annual event that occurs in Panem for the entertainment of the Capitol. One boy and one girl aged twelve to eighteen from each of the twelve districts are reaped into a battle to the death. The Hunger Games franchise currently has five films with a sixth coming out in 2026. These films are The Hunger Games, Catching Fire, Mockingjay Part 1, Mockingjay Part 2 and The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes.

The Hunger Games is the most popular young adult dystopian film franchise for a reason. Suzanne Collins wrote a compelling story which was adapted to a high production film franchise. The films used a high budget to produce high quality films with CGI and effects, sets, costumes and props. When watching the Hunger Games, I was always entertained, grew attached to the characters and really enjoyed my experience watching the films. What makes the Hunger Games so interesting is that the writer Suzanne Collins took inspiration from real world connections to write the series. She originally got the idea from switching through tv channels, that’s when she found a reality show where young people were competing for money and footage from the Iraq war was shown. This gave her the inspiration for the first hunger games film but afterwards she continued the story and used other real-world connections such as propaganda. The Hunger Games is heavily inspired by real-world propaganda that demonstrates how governments use manipulative techniques to control their population and maintain power.

Although I enjoyed the Hunger Games franchise, there were some disadvantages. The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1 and 2 are the third of fourth films in this franchise. When watching these two films there was a noticeable decline in quality like a flame that fizzled out. The Mockingjay films have a different storyline to the first two hunger games films which the audience felt less excited for. For the Mockingjay story they spilt it into two films which made these films feel stretched out and boring at times.

If you’re someone who gets attached to your favorite characters, then prepare to have your heart broken because a lot of characters die in the Hunger Games. My favorite character in the whole franchise died which devasted me, especially because I believe this character’s death to be unnecessary. So, if you’re like me and get attached to characters easily, just remember they will most likely die in the films.

If you enjoyed The Maze Runner or Divergent films then I volunteer you as tribute to watch the Hunger Games franchise. I am rating the Hunger Games franchise 4.5 out of 5 popcorn buckets! This film franchise is a dystopian must-see. It had a captivating storyline, plot twists, good script writing and a high production value. I recommend this film to everyone, even if you aren’t a dystopian fan, you will love this franchise!
