I’m Screaming!
Today I’ll be reviewing the Scream franchise!
Scream is a teen slasher franchise that is considered one of the most popular horror series. The Scream films follow the iconic masked killer Ghostface and their gruesome murders. Ghostface is a different person in every movie so every character is a suspect. Ghostface’s motives for killing people are personal vendettas, fame and revenge depending on the film. The Scream Franchise currently has six films with a seventh coming out in 2026.
The Scream franchise is an iconic slasher series with elements of mystery and horror. When watching each film, the audience doesn’t know the identity of Ghostface, which creates mystery and suspense for the viewer. Although the plot is the same in every film, the directors of each film made the movies interesting and entertaining. These films have been ongoing for over 30 years, but the main character’s return from the original first movie which the audience love. Sydney Prescott, Gale Weathers and Dewey Riley are the three main characters of this film franchise and throughout the films they show character development and evolve over time which helps the audience feel a connection with the characters.
This may be one of the most popular slasher film franchises, but there were also a lot of directive decisions that left fans unhappy. Throughout all six films so far, the storyline has been repeated with slight changes. While entertaining, the storyline can get repetitive and the audience may have issue with that. The best film of the franchise is the first one, because no one knew what to expect and Wes Craven did an excellent job directing the film. Wes Craven was the director of the first 4 films and after those, the rest didn’t perform as well. With the change in direction came a change to the film franchise. It had a different cast and vibe but continued with the same storyline. The newer films didn’t have the same 90s slasher film vibe to them which fans really enjoyed. The fifth and sixth films almost felt like a reboot rather than a sequel when watching.
If you enjoyed Scary Movie, Halloween or Friday the 13th then I highly recommend watching the Scream franchise. Scream is an iconic slasher film that every horror fan needs to watch. I am rating the Scream franchise 4 out of 5 popcorn buckets! This film franchise has a classic horror slasher story perfect to watch in the spooky season or anytime with friends and family!
